Documents obtained under freedom of information show the home affairs minister Peter Dutton personally intervened to stop a French au pair being deported after his office was lobbied by AFL boss Gillon McLachlan. Mr Dutton approved the release of the 27-year-old French woman from immigration detention in November 2015 and used his ministerial power to grant her a tourist visa.

Authorities in Queensland say they've found all 17 people believed to have come ashore from a suspected illegal fishing boat. Queensland police told searchers at around 5 pm yesterday that the last of the suspected illegal fishers have been found. Two of the boat's passengers were picked up by local fishermen.

And Melbourne artist Mirka Mora has died at the age of 90. An artist for more than six decades, her work ranged from ceramics to doll making and is on display in galleries around the world. One of her most well known pieces is her mural welcoming visitors to Melbourne's Flinders Street Station.
