Rescue and recovery efforts are continuing in Greece where fires have killed at least 74 people in towns and villages on a peninsula near Athens. The coastguard says it's rescued 700 people who managed to get to the shoreline and pulled nineteen people and six bodies from the sea. The Greek prime minister, Alexis Tsipras, has declared three days of national mourning.

More than six-thousand people in Laos have been left homeless after a dam wall collapsed in the country's south. At least 20 people have been killed and more than 100 are missing after billions-of-litres of floodwater swept through nearby villages. The operators of the hydro-power dam say they issued a warning shortly before the wall collapsed, but there was not enough time to evacuate residents downstream.

Police in Western Australia continue to search for five prison escapees as residents of Geraldton remain on high alert. Ten inmates escaped from Greenough Regional Prison yesterday afternoon. Police are urging residents to lock doors and windows and drivers are warned to keep vehicles secured.

A protest by local farmers has brought stage 16 of the Tour de France to a halt. Police used tear gas to clear protestors and some of it blew into the faces of the riders. After the chaos, Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe won the stage. Geraint Thomas retains the race leader's yellow jersey.
